Ingredients
10 slices white sandwich bread
3 tablespoons butter, melted
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
3 large eggs
1 tablespoon milk
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2–3 tablespoons butter for frying
Instructions
- Remove the crusts from the bread slices. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice to about ⅛ inch thickness.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon until well combined.
- Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly over each flattened bread slice, leaving a small border at the edges. Roll up each slice tightly and seal the edges with gentle pressure.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 2–3 tablespoons of butter. Dip each roll in the egg mixture, ensuring it's fully coated, then place seam-side down in the skillet.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes, rotating to brown all sides evenly until golden and cooked through.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze individually on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe container; reheat in oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes.
- For added crunch, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the cinnamon filling.
- Try spreading cream cheese on bread before cinnamon mixture for a creamy twist.
- Add thin slices of banana or apple inside for a fruity variation.
- Use brioche or challah bread for richer flavor and texture.
- Quick dip in egg mixture prevents sogginess.
- Can substitute gluten-free bread to make gluten-free.
- Chocolate chips can be added to filling for a chocolate-cinnamon flavor.
