This Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken is a delicious and healthy twist on the classic teriyaki chicken, made even easier and quicker by using the air fryer. The chicken is tender and coated in a flavorful, sweet, and savory teriyaki glaze, perfect for any weeknight dinner or meal prep. It is also gluten-free, so everyone can enjoy it.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1 tablespoon olive oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the teriyaki sauce:

¼ cup gluten-free soy sauce

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Pat the chicken thighs dry with a paper towel and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Lightly brush the chicken with olive oil.
  4. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket and cook for about 18–20 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time. The chicken should be golden brown and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the teriyaki sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the gluten-free soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  6. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with a little cold water to make a slurry and add it to the simmering sauce. Let it cook for a couple of minutes until thickened.
  7. Once the chicken is done, remove it from the air fryer and drizzle the teriyaki sauce over the chicken.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.

Notes

  • Chicken breasts can be substituted for thighs, but adjust the cooking time as breasts cook faster.
  • You can add pineapple juice to the sauce for a tropical twist.
  • If you like it spicy, add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the chicken with tofu. Be sure to press the tofu to remove excess moisture before cooking.
  • Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 5–7 minutes to maintain the crispy texture.
