This creamy white garlic pizza sauce is a rich and flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce, made with butter, fresh garlic, Parmesan cheese, and herbs for a smooth and savory layer on pizza.

Ingredients

2 tbsp butter

4 cloves garlic (minced)

3 tbsp all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp ground black pepper

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp oregano

1 cup milk

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to let it brown.
  3. Stir in the flour, black pepper, salt, and oregano. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps.
  5. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce thickens, about 4-5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Let the sauce cool slightly before spreading it over your pizza dough.

Notes

  • Add fresh herbs like basil or thyme for extra flavor.
  • Use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk for a richer sauce.
  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic.
  • Swap Parmesan for Pecorino Romano for a sharper cheese flavor.
  • Incorporate roasted garlic instead of fresh garlic for a sweeter, milder taste.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat, stirring frequently to prevent separation. Add milk if needed to thin.
