Salisbury steak is a classic comfort food made of tender, seasoned ground beef patties smothered in a savory mushroom and onion gravy, perfect for any family dinner.

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/3 cup seasoned breadcrumbs

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)

1 medium onion, sliced or chopped

8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced

2 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons flour

1 3/4 cups beef broth

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients to streamline the cooking process.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all beef patty ingredients (except olive oil). Mix until everything is well incorporated. Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté onion and mushrooms for 7-9 minutes until browned. Transfer to the plate with the patties.
  5. Lower heat to medium, melt butter in the skillet, and sprinkle in flour. Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
  6. Gradually whisk in beef broth. Add Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder. Stir until smooth.
  7. Return the onions, mushrooms, and patties (with any juices) to the skillet. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens and patties are cooked through.
  8. Serve immediately over your choice of side dish.
