A delightful combination of flaky puff pastry and creamy cream cheese filling, topped with fresh blueberries. This pastry is perfect for breakfast, dessert, or any occasion that calls for a sweet treat.

Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup fresh blueberries

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tbsp water

Optional: Additional powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  5. Add a few fresh blueberries on top of the cream cheese.
  6. Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling, creating a pocket or turnover shape. Press the edges to seal them.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top of the pastry.
  8. Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
  9. Allow the pastries to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar (if desired) and serving.

Notes

  • Fruit Variations: Swap the blueberries for other fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries for a different flavor profile.
  • Spices: Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cream cheese mixture for a warm, spiced flavor.
  • Glaze: For an extra touch of sweetness, drizzle a simple glaze made of powdered sugar and milk over the baked pastries.
  • Storage: Store any leftover puff pastries in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat the pastries in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes to restore their crispiness.
