Yogurt Marinated Chicken is a flavorful and juicy dish where chicken is marinated in a rich yogurt-based marinade infused with spices. The yogurt helps tenderize the chicken while adding a tangy, savory flavor, making it perfect for grilling, baking, or pan-frying.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)

1 cup plain yogurt (Greek yogurt works best)

2 tbsp olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp ground cumin

1 tbsp ground paprika

1 tsp ground turmeric

1 tsp ground coriander

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the yogurt, olive oil, garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated.
  2. Add the chicken breasts (or thighs) into the marinade, making sure each piece is fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, for maximum flavor infusion.
  3. Preheat the grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent the chicken from sticking.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off.
  5. Grill or cook the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) and the juices run clear.
  6. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley if desired, and serve with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • For a spicy version, add chili powder, cayenne pepper, or fresh chopped chili to the marinade.
  • For an herbed twist, include chopped fresh herbs like mint, basil, or oregano.
  • If you prefer a vegetarian option, marinate and grill vegetables like cauliflower, zucchini, or mushrooms in the yogurt marinade.
  • Grilled chicken skewers can be made by cutting the chicken into cubes and threading them onto skewers.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • If making in advance, marinate the chicken the night before or freeze the marinated chicken for up to 3 months.
