Ingredients

  • Red Sauce:

    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 cup onion, chopped
    • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
    • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
    • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    • 1 1/2 (24-ounce) jars spaghetti sauce

    Pasta:

    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • 16 ounces spaghetti

    Alfredo Sauce:

    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon flour
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated

    Topping:

    • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, freshly shredded

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and spaghetti sauce. Let the sauce simmer on low heat while you prepare the Alfredo sauce.
  • For the Alfredo sauce, melt butter in another pan. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute. Stir in flour and cook for another minute.
  • Slowly whisk in the heavy cream, then add Parmesan cheese, stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  • Cook spaghetti according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  • Toss the pasta in the Alfredo sauce, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  • Transfer the pasta to a casserole dish, then top with the red sauce mixture.
  • Sprinkle freshly shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the dish.
  • Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the red sauce or use spicy sausage in the meat mixture.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or Italian sausage for different flavors.
  • This recipe is easily adaptable to be vegan—just use plant-based meat and non-dairy alternatives for butter, cream, and cheese.
  • If preparing ahead of time, refrigerate the assembled dish and bake when ready to serve, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time if chilled.
