Baked potatoes are a classic comfort food, simple to make, and always satisfying. This recipe creates golden, crispy potatoes with fluffy, soft interiors, perfect for serving with any meal or enjoying on their own.

Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes

Olive oil

Salt

Black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Scrub the potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  3. Prick each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape while baking.
  4. Rub each potato with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and black pepper.
  5. Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skins are crispy and a fork easily pierces the flesh.
  7. Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
  8. Cut open the potatoes and fluff the insides with a fork. Add butter, sour cream, chives, or any toppings you prefer.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, bake the potatoes directly on the oven rack.
  • Wrap potatoes in foil for a softer skin.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
  • Reheat in the microwave or oven for the best results.
  • Sweet potatoes can be baked using the same method, but may require a shorter baking time.
