Spaghetti Pie is a delicious and comforting twist on traditional spaghetti. It features a crust made of spaghetti noodles, topped with ricotta cheese, ground beef, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella for a fun and hearty meal.

Ingredients

8 ounces spaghetti noodles

2 Tablespoons butter, melted

1 large egg

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

8 ounces ricotta cheese

1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 pound lean ground beef

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh parsley or basil, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions, drain, and rinse with cold water.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the cooked spaghetti with the melted butter. Stir in the beaten egg and Parmesan cheese. Press this mixture into the pie dish to form a crust.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese and Italian seasoning. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the spaghetti crust.
  5. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess grease, then stir in the marinara sauce. Simmer for 5-10 minutes to blend the flavors.
  6. Spread the beef sauce over the ricotta layer, then top with the shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the edges are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pie cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil and serve.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with sautéed vegetables such as mushrooms, zucchini, or spinach.
  • For extra cheesiness, add a layer of shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese between the ricotta and beef layers.
  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free pasta.
  • If you like spice, add crushed red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave or in the oven.
  • This recipe can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking. Just bake for an additional 5-10 minutes if chilled.
  • For freezing, allow the pie to cool completely, wrap tightly, and store in the freezer for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen at 350°F for 30-40 minutes.
