This Savory Breakfast Sausage and Cheese Casserole is a hearty and satisfying breakfast option, combining savory sausage, cheddar cheese, and a fluffy egg mixture, all baked into a delicious, easy-to-make casserole. Perfect for busy mornings or brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

6 large eggs

1 pound breakfast sausage

1 cup whole milk

2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon sea salt

½ teaspoon dried minced garlic

½ teaspoon dried minced onion

1 refrigerated crescent roll dough sheet

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the breakfast sausage over medium heat. Drain any excess oil and set the sausage aside to cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough sheet and press it evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish. Pinch any seams together to form a solid base.
  4. Evenly distribute the browned sausage over the dough, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, black pepper, sea salt, dried minced garlic, and dried minced onion until well combined.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausage and cheese layers. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  7. Remove from the oven and, if desired, garnish with fresh parsley. Cut into 12 squares and serve warm.

Notes

  • To make it vegetarian, swap the sausage for sautéed vegetables like mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers.
  • For a different flavor, experiment with other cheeses like Monterey Jack or mozzarella.
  • Make it spicier by adding diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the egg mixture.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crescent roll dough.
  • Can be prepared the night before, refrigerated, and baked in the morning.
  • This casserole can also be frozen before or after baking for later use.
