Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound lean ground beef

1 small onion, finely diced

1 green bell pepper, diced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup reduced-sodium beef broth

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried parsley

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

½ teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon paprika

¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

6 brioche hamburger buns

6 slices provolone cheese

Butter or mayonnaise for toasting buns (optional)

Instructions

  • Toast the Buns: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Split the brioche buns and place them cut-side up on a baking sheet. Optionally, butter or spread mayonnaise on the cut sides. Toast for about 5 minutes until golden brown.

  • Cook the Beef Mixture: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles. Remove excess fat if necessary.

  • Sauté Vegetables: Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

  • Add Sauces and Seasonings: Stir in beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, oregano, parsley, salt, pepper, basil, paprika, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer, and cook for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  • Incorporate Cheese: Remove skillet from heat. Stir in provolone cheese slices, mixing until melted and creamy.

  • Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon the beef and cheese mixture onto the toasted buns. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

  • Freezing: Freeze the beef mixture for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

  • Reheating: Reheat the mixture in a skillet, adding a splash of broth to adjust the consistency if needed.
