Nun’s Puffs are light, airy, and sweet treats with a crispy sugary top and soft, pillowy inside. These puffs are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an indulgent snack, offering a delightful combination of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

1 stick butter (½ cup)

1 cup milk

¾ cup all-purpose flour

4 eggs

½1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for sweeter puffs)

Sugar for sprinkling

Honey for serving

Whipped cream or fruit (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and generously grease a 12-cup muffin tin.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the milk and bring to a low boil.
  3. Add all the flour at once and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  6. Divide the dough evenly among the muffin cups and sprinkle the tops with sugar for extra crunch.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown, avoiding opening the oven door during baking.
  8. Serve warm, drizzled with honey and optionally topped with whipped cream or fresh fruit.

Notes

  • You can make these puffs ahead by refrigerating the dough for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • For added sweetness, increase the sugar in the dough or dust with powdered sugar once baked.
  • These puffs can be frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat in a 350°F oven for about 5 minutes to restore puffiness.
  • For a savory version, skip the sugar and add savory toppings like cheese or herbs.
