Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped and patted dry
  • 1½ cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  • Gently fold in the maraschino cherries and chocolate chips.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.

Notes

  • For a softer texture, consider chilling the dough before baking.
  • You can substitute chocolate chips for white chocolate chips or add chopped almonds for a different twist.
  • Ensure the maraschino cherries are well-drained to avoid excess moisture in the dough.
