A nostalgic, one-pot American-style goulash combining seasoned ground beef, elbow macaroni, and a rich tomato sauce for a comforting and hearty meal.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups elbow macaroni

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

2 ½ cups water or broth

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and garlic; cook until soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add macaroni and water or broth; stir well.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes until pasta is tender.
  6. Mix in shredded cheddar if desired, and cook until melted.

Notes

  • Vegetarian option: Replace ground beef with lentils or beans, and use vegetable broth.
  • For spicier goulash: Add crushed red pepper flakes, jalapeños, or spicy sausage.
  • Low-carb alternative: Substitute macaroni with zucchini noodles or cauliflower rice.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat on stovetop over low heat, adding water or broth if needed.
  • Can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a leaner option.
