Irish Pasties are a savory, hearty treat featuring tender roast beef, potatoes, and a flaky crust. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any day you crave comfort food, these pasties are filled with rich flavors and paired with a delicious beef gravy. Easy to make with leftover roast, this recipe delivers comforting goodness in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cooked roast beef
  • 3-4 potatoes (baked or boiled)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 pie crusts
  • Beef gravy (for serving)

For the Gravy:

  • Drippings from beef roast
  • 1 to 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons beef bouillon
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with ¼ cup water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Shred or chop the cooked roast beef and cube the potatoes.
  • In a bowl, mix together the beef, potatoes, salt, and pepper.
  • Cut the pie crusts in half and fill each half with the mixture. Seal the edges.
  • Place the filled pasties on a greased baking sheet. Cut slits on top of each pasty for ventilation.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy.
  • Brush the pasties with melted butter for extra flavor and color.
  • Serve the pasties with the prepared beef gravy.

Notes

  • You can add shredded carrots or onions to the filling for more flavor.
  • Substitute roast beef with chicken for a variation.
  • If making ahead, refrigerate the assembled pasties until ready to bake.
  • If using frozen hash browns, no need to cook them beforehand—they’ll cook inside the pastry during baking.
