A hearty, flavorful spaghetti sauce made from scratch with ground beef and a rich blend of tomatoes and herbs, perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 small green bell pepper, diced

1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes

1 16-ounce can tomato sauce

1 6-ounce can tomato paste

2 teaspoons dried oregano

2 teaspoons dried basil

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Cook and stir until the meat is browned and crumbly, and the vegetables are tender, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain the excess grease.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Serve the sauce hot over your favorite pasta and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes while simmering.
  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage for a different flavor.
  • Add chopped mushrooms or carrots for extra veggies and texture.
  • Use fresh tomatoes instead of canned for a fresher taste during tomato season.
  • Stir in a splash of red wine during simmering to deepen the flavor.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat gently on the stove over low heat, stirring occasionally.
