Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons yeast (active dry or instant)
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast: Warm the milk until just warm (not hot). Stir in the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Make the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the egg and the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  • Knead: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a ball and arrange on a greased baking sheet.
  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Garlic Butter Finish (Optional): Brush with melted garlic butter while warm for extra flavor.

Notes

  • To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-7 minutes or in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
  • For a cheesy twist, add shredded cheese inside before rolling into balls.
  • For dairy-free rolls, use almond or oat milk and a vegan butter substitute.
