2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
8 ounces cream cheese (full-fat, room temperature)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup guava paste (or guava jam)
Powdered sugar for dusting
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until the dough forms.
Chill the dough for at least 2 hours.
Roll dough into 1-inch balls, dusting hands with powdered sugar or dampening them if sticky. Press your thumb or a spoon to make an indent in the center.
Fill the indents with warmed guava paste.
Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
Let the cookies cool completely and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
You can replace guava paste with other fruit jams like strawberry, mango, or apricot.
For extra sweetness, drizzle a cream cheese glaze over cooled cookies.
If the guava paste is too thick, warm it up slightly and add a few drops of water to loosen it.
