Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

8 ounces cream cheese (full-fat, room temperature)

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon almond extract

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup guava paste (or guava jam)

Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium-sized bowl.

  • Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until the dough forms.

  • Chill the dough for at least 2 hours.

  • Roll dough into 1-inch balls, dusting hands with powdered sugar or dampening them if sticky. Press your thumb or a spoon to make an indent in the center.

  • Fill the indents with warmed guava paste.

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.

  • Let the cookies cool completely and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • You can replace guava paste with other fruit jams like strawberry, mango, or apricot.

  • For extra sweetness, drizzle a cream cheese glaze over cooled cookies.

  • If the guava paste is too thick, warm it up slightly and add a few drops of water to loosen it.
