Fish tacos are a delightful fusion of crispy, seasoned fish nestled in warm tortillas, topped with vibrant slaw and a zesty sauce. This dish combines the freshness of the sea with the bold flavors of Mexican cuisine, making it a favorite for many.

Ingredients

White fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or halibut)

Olive oil

Lime juice

Chili powder

Ground cumin

Garlic powder

Salt

Corn or flour tortillas

Shredded cabbage

Fresh cilantro

Avocado slices

Sour cream

Mayonnaise

Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, lime juice, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and salt. Coat the fish fillets with this marinade and let them sit for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Grill or pan-sear the marinated fish over medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes per side, until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  3. Combine sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, and hot sauce (if using) in a bowl. Mix until smooth.
  4. Warm the tortillas. Place pieces of cooked fish on each tortilla, top with shredded cabbage, avocado slices, and a drizzle of the prepared sauce. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add sliced jalapeños or a dash of cayenne pepper to the marinade.
  • Creamy Slaw: Mix the shredded cabbage with a bit of the prepared sauce for a creamier texture.
  • Tropical Twist: Top with mango salsa for a sweet and spicy flavor combination.
  • Cheesy Delight: Sprinkle crumbled queso fresco or feta cheese over the assembled tacos.
  • Storage: Store leftover fish and sauce separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheating: Gently reheat the fish in a skillet over low heat until warmed through. Avoid microwaving to prevent the fish from becoming rubbery.
