Dirty Rice with Ground Beef is a classic Southern dish loaded with bold flavors, tender rice, and seasoned beef. This one-pot meal is easy to make, packed with Cajun spices, and perfect for a weeknight dinner or a flavorful side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 ½ cups long-grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • Optional: Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • Brown the Beef: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Sauté Vegetables: Add onions, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened.
  • Toast the Rice: Stir in the uncooked rice and cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing it to toast slightly.
  • Add Seasonings & Broth: Sprinkle in paprika, thyme, Cajun seasoning, and black pepper. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil.
  • Simmer: Reduce heat, cover, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • Fluff & Serve: Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust Cajun seasoning to control spice level.
  • Use ground turkey, chicken, or sausage as a substitute for beef.
  • Brown rice can be used but will require a longer cooking time and additional liquid.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
