Crispy Amish Onion Fritters are a delightful dish combining sweet, savory onions with a crispy, golden exterior. These fritters are perfect as an appetizer, snack, or side dish, with a satisfying crunch and burst of flavor.

Ingredients

2 large onions, thinly sliced

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon paprika

1 large egg

1/2 cup milk

Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and milk together until smooth.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Stir in the thinly sliced onions, making sure they are well-coated in the batter.
  5. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the oil, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon.
  7. Fry the fritters for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!
