For the Biscuits:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp sugar (optional)

1 tsp kosher salt

1 tbsp baking powder

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

3/4 cup buttermilk (or whole milk)

1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

For the Biscuit Topping:

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 tsp garlic powder

2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  • Prep the oven: Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Butter preparation: Cut the butter into small pieces and freeze until ready to use.

  • Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, sugar (optional), salt, and baking powder.

  • Cut in the butter: Using a pastry cutter, cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Add liquids and cheese: Stir in the buttermilk, mixing just until combined. Add shredded cheddar and incorporate using your hands.

  • Form biscuits and bake: Scoop dough onto the prepared baking sheet, forming 8 biscuits. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

  • Prepare topping: In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley. Brush over warm biscuits.

Notes

  • Cheese variations: Try using mozzarella or pepper jack for a different cheese flavor.

  • Storage/Reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes.
