A delicious and versatile berry crumble dessert made with mixed berries and a buttery, crunchy topping. Perfect for any occasion, customizable, and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

6 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)

6 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

¾ cup brown sugar

⅓ cup granulated sugar

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

12 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes

½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the berries, cornstarch (or flour), and lemon juice. Stir to combine and let sit for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Spread the berry mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or two forks to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Stir in nuts if using.
  7. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the berry mixture.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the berry filling is bubbling.
  9. Allow the crumble to cool for 15 minutes to let the filling set. Serve warm with optional vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use cold butter to keep the topping crisp.
  • Frozen berries work well; no need to thaw.
  • All-purpose flour can substitute for cornstarch.
  • Add oats or spices to customize the topping.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
