Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Cook the Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened (about 3-4 minutes). Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add ground beef, breaking it apart while it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, basil, and oregano. Once browned, stir in the marinara sauce and simmer for a few minutes.
  • Assemble the Dish: In a large baking dish, combine cooked pasta, meat sauce, ricotta cheese, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Stir to mix thoroughly. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  • Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish and Serve: Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
