Apple crumble is a comforting and classic dessert that combines sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples with a buttery, crumbly topping, perfect for cozy nights or any occasion.

Ingredients

6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup butter (cold and cut into small cubes)

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the apples to a greased 9-inch baking dish or an equivalent-sized casserole dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the butter, oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  6. If desired, sprinkle sliced almonds over the top for added texture and flavor.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  8. Allow the apple crumble to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spiced version, add a pinch of cloves or allspice to the apple mixture.
  • To make it vegan, replace the butter with coconut oil or a dairy-free butter substitute.
  • You can mix in other fruits like pears, berries, or rhubarb for variety.
  • For extra crunch, add more oats or chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans.
