Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 cup water

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

2 tbsp yellow mustard

2 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked, breaking it into small crumbles.

  • Drain excess fat if necessary.

  • Add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until soft and translucent.

  • Stir in the water, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving over hot dogs.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to taste.

  • To make a vegetarian version, swap out the ground beef for lentils or plant-based meat.

  • To adjust sweetness, increase the brown sugar or add honey for a different flavor.
