Tzatziki is a cool, creamy Greek yogurt sauce blended with fresh cucumber, herbs, garlic, and lemon for a bright Mediterranean flavor. This refreshing no-cook dip comes together quickly and pairs perfectly with grilled meats, vegetables, or warm pita.

Ingredients

1 cup Greek yogurt

packed cups cucumber (about 9 ounces, grated using the large holes of a box grater)

2 tablespoon dill, chopped

1 tablespoon mint, chopped (optional)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (plus more for drizzling)

1 clove garlic, minced (add more to taste)

½ teaspoon salt (add more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Grate the cucumber using the large holes of a box grater, keeping the peel on for added color and texture.
  2. Squeeze the grated cucumber with your hands to remove excess liquid to prevent the tzatziki from becoming watery.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained cucumber, Greek yogurt, dill, mint (if using), lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, and salt.
  4. Stir well until fully combined. Taste and adjust salt or garlic as needed.
  5. For best flavor, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Spread onto a serving plate, drizzle with additional olive oil, and garnish with fresh herbs or a pinch of paprika before serving.

Notes

  • For a thicker dip, strain the Greek yogurt through cheesecloth before mixing.
  • Add finely grated lemon zest for extra brightness.
  • Swap mint for fresh parsley for a different herbal note.
  • Stir in a small amount of finely chopped red onion for added sharpness.
  • For a dairy-free option, use a thick plant-based yogurt alternative.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving if separation occurs.
  • Freezing is not recommended as the texture may become watery after thawing.
