These Sweet Air Fryer Churro Bites are a healthier version of the beloved fair treat, made crispy and golden with minimal oil. Bite-sized and easy to prepare, they’re perfect for a family dessert or a snack.

Ingredients

1 cup plain flour

1 cup water

1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

1 large egg

1 cup white sugar (for coating)

1 tablespoon cinnamon powder (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a pan, combine 1 cup water, 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat and gradually add 1 cup plain flour, stirring continuously until the dough comes together smoothly. Remove the pan from the heat.
  3. Transfer the dough into a large mixing bowl and let it cool for about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Once slightly cooled, add 1 teaspoon vanilla essence and 1 large egg. Use an electric hand mixer to combine until smooth.
  5. Transfer the dough to a piping bag. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  6. Pipe bite-sized churros into the basket, ensuring they don’t overcrowd. Alternatively, drop dough by spoonfuls for a different look.
  7. Lightly brush butter on top of the churros and cook in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Cook in batches if necessary.
  8. In a shallow bowl, mix 1 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder. Once churros are cooked, toss them gently in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Optionally, brush them with melted butter to help the sugar stick.
  9. Serve warm with dipping sauce of your choice and enjoy!

  • If you want a different flavor, try adding a splash of almond extract to the dough or using cocoa powder in the coating.
