These Soft & Fluffy Cream Donuts are the perfect treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. With a soft and airy texture on the inside and a golden crisp on the outside, these donuts are a delight to both make and eat. You can enjoy them plain, dusted with sugar, or filled with creamy whipped cream.

Ingredients

190g milk

7g instant yeast

35g sugar

7g salt

1 egg

350g bread flour

40g soft butter

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the yeast, sugar, salt, egg, and milk. Whisk until well combined.
  2. Add in the bread flour and stir with a rubber spatula until the mixture comes together.
  3. Knead the dough by hand just until it forms a cohesive ball. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  4. After 15 minutes, transfer the dough to a clean work surface. Stretch the dough out and add the softened butter. Knead the dough by folding the sides together until smooth and elastic. Do not use dry flour.
  5. Once the dough is smooth and elastic, cover it and let it rest for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. While the dough is rising, prepare a large tray with small pieces of parchment paper.
  7. After the dough has risen, divide it into equal portions and shape the dough as desired (balls or oblong shapes).
  8. Place the shaped donuts on the parchment paper, leaving space between each one. Cover and let them proof for 10-15 minutes.
  9. Heat oil in a large pan over medium-low heat until it reaches 180°C.
  10. Carefully drop each donut into the hot oil, making sure not to deflate them. Lift the donut with the parchment paper, then flip it upside down in the oil. The parchment paper will release on its own.
  11. Fry the donuts until golden brown, then flip and fry the other side.
  12. Once golden on both sides, remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool.
  13. If desired, dip the cooled donuts in sugar or slice them in half and fill with whipped cream.

Notes

  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days. If filled with perishable fillings, refrigerate them.
  • Reheat donuts by microwaving them for 10-15 seconds or using a toaster oven at 180°C for 5 minutes for a crispy texture.
  • You can substitute all-purpose flour for bread flour, but the texture may be less chewy.
  • For sugar-coated donuts, dip them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon after frying.
  • Filled donuts can be stuffed with whipped cream, custard, or jam for a twist.
  • Fry the donuts on medium-low heat to avoid excessive oil absorption.
