This Savory Breakfast Sausage and Cheese Casserole is a hearty and comforting breakfast dish, combining savory sausage, melty cheddar cheese, and a rich egg mixture, all baked into a golden, crispy casserole. Perfect for brunch or a filling breakfast.

Ingredients

6 large eggs

1 pound breakfast sausage

1 cup whole milk

2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon sea salt

½ teaspoon dried minced garlic

½ teaspoon dried minced onion

1 refrigerated crescent roll dough sheet

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the sausage: In a skillet, brown the breakfast sausage over medium heat. Once cooked, drain any excess oil and set the sausage aside to cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Prepare the dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough sheet and press it evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish. Pinch any seams together to form a solid base.
  4. Layer the ingredients: Evenly sprinkle the browned sausage over the dough, followed by the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Mix the egg mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, black pepper, sea salt, dried minced garlic, and dried minced onion. Ensure everything is well combined.
  6. Pour and bake: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausage and cheese layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley, cut into 12 squares, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Feel free to experiment with other cheeses such as mozzarella for extra creaminess, or Parmesan for a crispy crust on top.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or spinach to boost the nutrition of your casserole.
  • Use hot sausage instead of regular breakfast sausage or add red pepper flakes to the egg mixture for a spicy kick.
  • You can assemble the casserole the night before, cover it, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, just bake it for a convenient breakfast.
