Pan-fried halloumi with a crisp golden crust and a warm, salty, slightly chewy center. This quick and simple method creates perfectly cooked halloumi in just minutes.

Ingredients

1 block halloumi cheese (about 225 g / 8 oz)

Instructions

  1. Cut the halloumi block into slices about 0.5 cm thick. Avoid slicing too thin so the pieces hold their shape and develop a better texture.
  2. Place a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the halloumi slices in a single layer without overcrowding the pan.
  4. Cook the slices for a few minutes without moving them. The cheese may release some liquid at first.
  5. Allow the moisture to evaporate until the underside turns golden brown.
  6. Flip each slice and cook the second side until golden. The second side usually browns faster.
  7. Remove from the pan and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Sprinkle cooked halloumi with black pepper, chili flakes, dried oregano, or sesame seeds for extra flavor.
  • A squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a drizzle of hot honey adds a sweet and tangy contrast.
  • Serve with salads, grain bowls, wraps, sandwiches, eggs, or roasted vegetables.
  • Halloumi can also be cooked on a grill pan for a lightly charred finish.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat slices in a dry non-stick pan over medium-low heat until warmed through.
  • Avoid microwaving if possible, as it may make the cheese rubbery.
