This Healthy Burger in a Bowl is a low-carb, protein-packed dish that brings all the classic burger flavors without the bun. It's quick to make, full of fresh veggies, and finished with a creamy, tangy burger sauce.

Ingredients

1 large head romaine lettuce, chopped

1 lb lean ground beef

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp Italian seasoning

Salt and black pepper, to taste

4 tbsp sour cream

4 tbsp ketchup

2 tbsp soy sauce

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp maple syrup

Salt and black pepper, to taste (for the sauce)

1 avocado, sliced

1/2 red onion, sliced

2 large pickles, sliced

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Drain excess liquid and remove the skillet from heat.
  3. In a small bowl, mix sour cream, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, maple syrup, salt, and pepper to make the burger sauce.
  4. To assemble, start with a layer of chopped romaine lettuce in each bowl. Add ground beef, avocado, red onion, pickles, and cherry tomatoes.
  5. Drizzle each bowl with the burger sauce. Add extra salt and pepper if desired.

Notes

Swap ground beef for turkey or chicken for a leaner option.

Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter sauce.

Add shredded cheese, a boiled egg, or sautéed veggies for extra flavor and protein.

Store components separately to maintain freshness.

Slice avocado just before serving to avoid browning.
