This Cheesy Garlic Bread recipe combines roasted garlic, creamy butter custard, and gooey mozzarella for a rich and flavorful treat that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Ingredients

8-10 garlic cloves

2 tbsp olive oil

Pinch of salt

½ cup butter, melted (113g)

1 egg

¼ cup milk (60g)

½ tsp salt

½ tsp paprika

2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

12 King's Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls (or a French baguette of similar size)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Chopped parsley and chili flakes for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Toss the peeled garlic cloves with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Place them in a small oven-safe dish with a lid (or cover with foil). Bake for about 20 minutes until the garlic is soft and golden.
  3. Mash the roasted garlic with a fork and set aside.
  4. In a bowl, combine the mashed roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and parsley. Whisk everything together until smooth and well-combined.
  5. Lower the oven temperature to 350°F.
  6. Slice the sheet of bread rolls into two halves and place them on a large baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the bread is lightly golden and crispy.
  7. Pour the garlic butter custard into a larger pan. Dip the baked bread halves into the custard, making sure to coat them thoroughly on all sides.
  8. Return the bread to the baking sheet and bake for another 15-18 minutes at 350°F until the bread is golden.
  9. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese, then switch the oven setting to broil and broil for about 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley and chili flakes. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Herbed Garlic Butter: Add extra herbs like thyme, rosemary, or basil to the garlic butter custard for a fresh twist.
  • Spicy Version: Add extra chili flakes into the custard or sprinkle them over the top for a spicier kick.
  • Vegan Version: Use dairy-free butter and plant-based cheese to make this recipe vegan-friendly.
  • Garlic Parmesan: Top the cheesy garlic bread with grated Parmesan for an extra cheesy and savory finish.
  • Storage: Store any leftover garlic bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, wrap it tightly in foil and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Reheating: To reheat, place the bread in the oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes or until warm. For a crispy crust, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes.
