These apple and brie crostini with hot honey are a sweet, savory, and slightly spicy appetizer perfect for entertaining. Crisp toasted baguette slices are topped with melty brie, fresh apple, prosciutto, arugula, and a drizzle of warm spiced honey.

Ingredients

1 French baguette, sliced into rounds

8 oz brie cheese, sliced

1 Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced

4 oz prosciutto, torn into small pieces

1 cup fresh arugula

1/4 cup honey

1/2 teaspoon hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the baguette slices in a single layer.
  2. Top each slice of bread with a piece of brie cheese.
  3. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the brie is melted and the edges of the bread are lightly golden.
  4. Remove from the oven and immediately top each crostini with a thin slice of apple, a piece of prosciutto, and a small handful of arugula.
  5. In a small microwave-safe bowl, warm the honey for 10 to 15 seconds. Stir in hot sauce or cayenne pepper to taste.
  6. Drizzle the warm hot honey over the crostini and serve immediately while the cheese is warm.

Notes

  • Substitute fontina, havarti, or gruyère for brie if desired.
  • Try pear, fresh figs, or pomegranate seeds in place of apple.
  • Omit prosciutto to make the recipe vegetarian.
  • Add chopped toasted walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat at 350°F for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Toss apple slices lightly in lemon juice if preparing ahead to prevent browning.
