A comforting, budget-friendly dish featuring seasoned hamburger steaks and a creamy mushroom sauce, perfect for a family meal.

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 (10 oz) can cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup milk

1 small onion, thinly sliced

1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, then form the mixture into 4-6 patties.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hamburger patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Transfer the patties to a baking dish.
  4. In the same skillet, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, sliced onion, and mushrooms (if using). Stir and simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Pour the mushroom sauce over the hamburger patties in the baking dish, ensuring they are well coated.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the sauce is bubbly and the patties are fully cooked.
  7. Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a cheesy twist, add shredded cheese on top of the hamburger steaks before baking.
  • If you prefer more heat, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • For a different flavor, swap the ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or pork.
  • For extra nutrients, you can add other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots to the sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days or frozen for longer storage.
